After some parts of it were submerged under the dam lake due to the construction of Birecik Dam in Halfeti, we board our boat waiting for us to start the Halfeti Boat Tour with our guests. After a photo break, we begin our ascent to Nemrut Mountain, which has a height of 2150 meters above sea level in the Eastern Taurus mountain range. On the summit at 2150m stands the tumulus of King Antiochos I. On the eastern and western terraces, there are colossal statues made by King Antiochos representing Zeus (Oromasdes), Apollon, Mithras, Helios, Hermes, Herakles, Artagnes, Ares, Kommagene, Tiche, and himself. King Antiochos I openly reinforced the traditions, religious beliefs, and cultural practices of the Greek-Persian synthesis through these works. After receiving necessary information from our guide, we enjoy the breathtaking views while recalling Antiochos's will: “My birthday shall be celebrated every month and every year; on those days, the chief priest clothed in Persian garb, as graciously accorded to me by laws and ancestral traditions, will put golden wreaths upon all of us. The people gathered should feast heartily, and ample scents will be burnt and appropriate sacrifices made. They shall be thoroughly provided with the finest of food and drink on holy tables.” After our tour of Nemrut Mountain, we cross over the Nissibi Bridge, the Eastern Bosphorus connecting Kahta and Siverek, and head towards Diyarbakır, one of the oldest and most rooted cities in the Southeast. Some Syriac writers claim that it was converted from a church. However, even if the structure was not converted from a church, it is likely that an old church was located there.
