  • On the first day of the Butik Mardin Midyat Tour, after our morning flight, we meet our guide at Mardin Aziz Sancar Airport and transfer to our bus. We start the day by having breakfast in Mardin. We begin our tour by walking through the historic streets of Old Mardin. Our amazing tour where we will experience different periods of history with every step starts with the magnificent Latifiye Mosque, the last Artuqid artifact in Mardin, and its impressive crown gate. Then, we take a photo break at the Republic Square. As we pass through the small tunnels (Abbara) connecting the culture streets and narrow streets, we will transition to a different time period. By walking through narrow streets, we arrive at Zinciriye Medrese (Sultan İsa Medrese), one of the best places to view Mardin and the Mesopotamia scenery.
  • Walking among buildings that blend different faiths with street walls, doors, and door top ornaments, we reach the Mardin Ulu Mosque, an Artuqid period artifact. We visit Ulu Mosque, which is attractive with its sliced dome and particularly its minaret, accompanied by our guide, and we see the copper bazaar. After that, we see the Historical PTT Building, known as Şahtana Mansion, built by the Şahtana Family in 1890 by Armenian Architect Lole. Then, we take a coffee break with an incredible view of the Şehidiye Mosque, built in the 13th century. After resting with the Mesopotamia view, we have our lunch. Next, we visit the Mardin Living Museum, which showcases the artistic richness and heritage of Mardin, where we can witness arts like lead pouring, telkari, and copper processing live.
  • We visit the Sakıp Sabancı City Museum, which presents the history of the city shaped by its religious and cultural differences to the visitors with re-enactments and photographs. Our museum visit, which has a rich display including gravestones of different faiths, weaving, soap making, stone carving, goldsmithing, handicrafts, and items used in villages, concludes, and we meet our vehicle. Our last sightseeing point of the day is the Kasımiye Medrese, reflecting the Artuqid and Akkoyunlu periods. After receiving information about the medrese, we gather in our vehicle and head to our hotel for some relaxation.

  • On the second day of the Butik Mardin Midyat Tour, after breakfast at the hotel, we leave the hotel and head to Dara Ancient City, known as the Ephesus of Mesopotamia. Located 30 km southeast of Mardin in Oğuz Village, Dara Ancient City is one of the most important settlements of Upper Mesopotamia. We visit the Dara Ancient City, which consists of structures carved into the rock and spreads over a large area, with our guide. After the visit to Dara Ancient City, we move on to Nusaybin, the zero point of the border.
  • With a history of about 7000 years and a name history of 4000 years, the important city of Mesopotamia, Nusaybin, has a section of its continuously inhabited area in Syria, and a significant portion in Turkey. We visit the Mor Yakup Church, the largest school in Mesopotamia. After learning about Mor Evgin and Mir Osman, we visit the Zeynel Abidin Complex. After receiving information about the complex, which includes the tombs of Zeynel Abidin and his sister Sitti Zeynep, we get into our vehicle to step into a different geography. We reach Beyazsu, which springs from the foot of the plateau and hills south of Midyat. We take a tea and coffee break at Beyazsu, which is known for its cool and crystal clear water surrounded by trees and greenery, contrasting with the arid and treeless geography of Mardin. Then, we head to Kafro (pizza) Village, located in the southeast. After lunch, we continue our tour.
  • We move towards Mor Gabriel Monastery, located within the borders of Midyat. (It will be visited according to density and sufficient time.) The monastery, one of the famous and large buildings of the Syriac Ancient Community, is situated on a high hill covered with oak trees. Founded in 397 by Mor Shmuel and Mor Şemun, we visit the monastery with our guide. The name “Dayro d’Umro,” meaning “Abode of Monks,” is derived from the Syriac name and is also known as “Deyrulumur.” After our visit to the monastery, we move to Mağaraköy (Kiwex) in Ildil, located within the borders of Şırnak. Mağaraköy, which has been inhabited for centuries in accordance with the beliefs and lifestyles of the Yazidis, is completely abandoned. It takes its name from the caves that were carved and used meters below the houses. After receiving information about Yazidi culture from our guide, the village's texture, scent, cemetery area, and structure of the houses will take you to that moment when time stopped. After some free time, we move to the Syriac village of Haberli (Basibirin) Village. The 23 churches in the village will give you an idea of the vibrancy and density of the village in ancient times. We visit Mor Eşayho Church, one of the open churches, with our guide. This fully Syriac-populated village has produced 3 Patriarchs, 3 patriarch assistants, and 31 metropolitans. After exploring and learning about the village, we have a cup of tea in the village café and say farewell to the locals.
